Esculturas con fósforos de David Mach

opinion_1524.jpg

via: mymodernmet.com
David Mach is an artist who loves using new and different mediums. We've seen him make an enormous King Kong and a crucifix out of thousands of wire hangers. Now, the artist impresses us once again by using another common household material, the matchstick.

The first part of the process involves designing a form, often done by having a plastic model made from a clay mold. Many of the matches are imported from Japan for their colored heads. Then the task of sticking each matchstick onto the figure begins.

Depicting both real and fictional characters, Mach's sculptures are an array of dynamic looking figures. From Betty Boop, Charlie Chaplin, and even Marilyn Monroe, all of the matchstick art pieces are stunning.

Mach sells some of them at galleries and auctions, but others are destined to be set aflame and burnt down at exhibitions. After all the time spent creating these pieces, I couldn't even imagine setting them on fire!

Impresionante!

via weburbanist:

"From the pages of books spring mountain ranges, rocky islands in the sea and sculptures hidden in caves - not in your imagination, in this case, but literally - in three dimensions. Artist Guy Laramee has carved a series of hardcover encyclopedias written in both Chinese and English into stunning landscape scenes for two series entitled The Great Wall and Biblios."

Belgian artist Strook (a.k.a. Stefaan De Croock) has created a very interesting mural right outside the STUK art center in Leuven, Belgium. This wall, which was covered in moss, was given a modern makeover by Strook who took a pressure washer and made a relief mural out of it. By blasting away slowly and carefully at the wall, little by little an artwork came into being. What's most impressive is the fact that Strook had never used a pressure washer before and that it was a complete improvisation, with no reference sketch!

Doesn't this remind you of reverse graffiti?

"Target" repisa de libros por Mebrure Oral

opinion_1519.jpg

via designboom:

the 'target books' shelf by turkish designer mebrure oral is designed to keep books organized
by separating them into sections of 'already read' and 'yet to read'. each segment is demarcated
by its own bookend, a line of text that is built into the shelf that states either 'has been read' or 'will be read'.

each 'target books' shelf is produced in three pieces via injection molding of recyclable ABS plastic.

MURAL "PROTEO" .

We just got back from Miami and have so much great stuff to post and share with everybody. The whole Wynwood neighborhood was sitting in a haze of aerosol fumes, and empty Ironlak and  Montana boxes piled up on street corners. The volume of artwork going up throughout the week was mind boggling. We spent our days wandering around checking out all of the crews and pockets of artists jamming on the walls. What was most impressive to us really came from the seasoned graffiti writers, their pieces stood out more than the traditional murals and other street art that tends to dominate the festivals. Rime, perhaps one of the most seasoned writers with one of the freshest styles in the game, was putting in lots of work all over town.

Take a look at this entire wall of faces that graces a very long wall along N Miami Ave at NW 25th St. We caught Rime in action, almost halfway through painting this on Saturday afternoon.

Here Comes the Neighborhood: SEGO & SANER

HCTN EPISODE 5 : SEGO & SANER from Here Comes the Neighborhood on Vimeo.

In this Episode of Here Comes the Neighborhood, Mexican artists Saner and Sego collaborate on a mural for the Wynwood Walls. They create a colorful dreamscape together, building on themes that each of the artists have explored for years. Saner's interpretation of the work, and his poetic eloquence helps elevate the wall into an ethereal realm, while Sego, traveling to the United States for the first time, brings an astute attention to detail, and a stunning technique grounded in the complexities of the natural world. These Artists exemplify the power of art, both public and private, to function as a change agent, using this mural as a tool to reframe the worlds view of Mexico; from a dangerous narco state, to one of the most beautiful, mystical and transformative cultures in the world.

"Instead of grinding coffee beans for a morning brew, artist Saimir Strati has taken on a massive mosaic project made of approximately one million coffee beans. The piece features five characters who each represent a different continent. The objective is to display a sense of unity across the world.

Strati, who is based in Albania, is known for setting records with his meticulously labor-intensive creations and this installation entitled One World, One Family, One Coffee is no exception. The mosaic artist began the construction of this project, which is 25 square meters and weighs 140kg, in Tirana, Albania. He intends to complete the piece by December 12, 2011 to enter the Guinness World Records book yet again."
