Spontaneous Sculpturs del autor norteamericano Brad Downey (Editorial Gestalten) es un homenaje a inumerables acciones de intervención existentes y no existentes del espacio público.
Un libro pequeño de 160 páginas a todo color, es en cambio un documento rico en su contenido. No tiene mucho que ver con graffit, es más: nada. Las imagenes que muestras el autor son proyectos espontáneos y/o planificados pero por lo general de una vida útil mínima.
No se trata de pintura, se trata de intervención. De manifestarse ocupando los medios que te dá tu entorno. Postes, luces, rejas, hojas, ventanas, paneles y muchos otros elementos son modificados y presentados en Spontaneous Sculptures. Esto es 100% improvisación.
Es también por eso que cada página aparte de sus debidas fotografías de la acción urbana, contiene la información del autor, fotógrafo Y DE LA DURACIÓN de la acción. Es normal ver (5 min, 1 hora, 1 día). No vá más allá.
Justamente por eso este libro es una buena inspiración a modifiar tu entorno. Una alternativa a pintarlo ;)

Arabic Graffiti es un documento muy interesante. FHTF, la editorial, nos ha acostumbrado a libros hecho por actores urbanos para gente de la escena. Algo que se nota, acá habla gente que sabe y que le interesa saber más sobre temas específicos. Quieren fomentar esta cultura urbana, algo que en KELP.cl es el mismo camino.
Arabic Graffiti, libro de 200 páginas (full color) fue realizado por el tipógrafo lebanés Pascal Zoghbi y el grafitero y escritor Stone (Don Karl).
Como resumen el libro incluye varios ensayos sobre el graffiti, la caligrafía urbana y la tipografía contemporánea del mundo árabe. Ambos autores enfocan sus energías en analizar en forma de ensayos, profiles de artistas y fotografías lo que representa esta cultura en un mundo para nosotros en el Occidente, tan lejano.

son los principales capítulos. Da igual si sobre camiones, sobre muros, sobre fachadas, en diseños de accesorios para mujeres, libros o carteles...el arte urbano árabe vive una suerte de renacimiento. La gente se atreve y se manifiesta. Más y más gente toma un pincel, un lápiz o un spray y sale a dejar su huella.
Lo interesante es que con la caligrafía árabe es un tema muy hermoso. Muy estético!
Hay páginas realmente alucinantes donde esto es reconocible.
Por otro lado está el tema político que no deja indiferente a nadie. El libro rescata la manifestación de algunos de la libertad (ver Palestina/Israel/Jordania y el muro de Gaza). Como también la búsqueda de identidad de otros...un tema más social y personal.
Es así como Arabic Graffiti reune a artistas, grafiteros, tipógrafos del medio oriente y de todo el mundo en torno al arte urbano.
Muy recomendable lo puedes encontrar acá.
Les presento su primer libro que resume sus mejores trabajos en 150 páginas a todo color. Una buena posibilidad de ver sus trabajos, ya que si quieres verlos in situ tendrás que viajar desde Moscú hasta Los Angeles, California y muchos lugares entremedio. Un libro es una opción más económica.
El libro de Vhils, bajo el alero de la editorial alemana Gestalten, es un resumen de su actividad de los últimos años. Nos muestra su desarrollo desde los cuadros de stencil hasta los más reciente que son sus rostros incrustados en las fachadas de edificios.
Es sobre todo con sus últimos trabajos, en donde me refiero, a un nuevo camino del arte urbano. Ya no se trata de pintar sobre una fachada, Vhils la "destruye" con sus rostros, la marca y deja su rastro sacando pedazos del muro mismo.
No fuera algo muy especial si no fuera por las dimensiones de sus
trabajos. Estamos hablando de fachadas completas, sin necesidad de
color. El color lo entregan los ladrillos o lo que se encuentre detrás
del estuco o primera capa en una fachada.
Trabaja en equipo y obviamente necesita herramientas de construcción
para su trabajo. Sin mas ni menos este libro aclara todos sus objetivos y
sus visiones.
Son muchas imágenes, varias las hemos visto pero gran parte se presenta por primera vez. Como es costumbre los libros de Gestalten gozan de una gran calidad y elaboración. Vhils es un libro que recomiendo también como medio de analisis tanto de rostros como de el nuevo camino del street art.

David Mach is an artist who loves using new and different mediums. We've seen him make an enormous King Kong and a crucifix out of thousands of wire hangers. Now, the artist impresses us once again by using another common household material, the matchstick.
The first part of the process involves designing a form, often done by having a plastic model made from a clay mold. Many of the matches are imported from Japan for their colored heads. Then the task of sticking each matchstick onto the figure begins.
Depicting both real and fictional characters, Mach's sculptures are an array of dynamic looking figures. From Betty Boop, Charlie Chaplin, and even Marilyn Monroe, all of the matchstick art pieces are stunning.
Mach sells some of them at galleries and auctions, but others are destined to be set aflame and burnt down at exhibitions. After all the time spent creating these pieces, I couldn't even imagine setting them on fire!

Belgian artist Strook (a.k.a. Stefaan De Croock) has created a very interesting mural right outside the STUK art center in Leuven, Belgium. This wall, which was covered in moss, was given a modern makeover by Strook who took a pressure washer and made a relief mural out of it. By blasting away slowly and carefully at the wall, little by little an artwork came into being. What's most impressive is the fact that Strook had never used a pressure washer before and that it was a complete improvisation, with no reference sketch!

El mural "Proteo" fue pintado en la casa de Cauce Ciudadano (cauceciudadano.org.mx/) como parte de la galería urbana que MAMUTT esta realizando en colaboración con ellos. En esta galería también hay obra de ROA, Saner, Liqen, Dhear, Broken Crow y M-CITY.
La idea de este proyecto es que pintamos en zonas con problemas de violencia, pintamos ahí con los artistas urbanos reconocidos y creamos espacios de convivencia entre pandillas , ayudando así a la construcción de paz, le demostramos a otras personas que esta expresión puede llegar a ser un oficio, una obra de arte y una alternativa, además se le dispara la creatividad a posibles nuevos artistas, también ayuda al barrio trayendo nuevas vibras y nuevas ideas , así ayudando a que la armonía de un lugar que vive entre la delincuencia y la violencia, mejore, recuperamos espacios con arte.
En especifico colaboramos con una A.C. llamada Cauce Ciudadano (certificada por Ashoka y por la Comisión De Derechos Humanos del Distrito Federal) Cauce se enfoca a trabajar con jóvenes pandilleros y jóvenes en riesgo.

We just got back from Miami and have so much great stuff to post and share with everybody. The whole Wynwood neighborhood was sitting in a haze of aerosol fumes, and empty Ironlak and Montana boxes piled up on street corners. The volume of artwork going up throughout the week was mind boggling. We spent our days wandering around checking out all of the crews and pockets of artists jamming on the walls. What was most impressive to us really came from the seasoned graffiti writers, their pieces stood out more than the traditional murals and other street art that tends to dominate the festivals. Rime, perhaps one of the most seasoned writers with one of the freshest styles in the game, was putting in lots of work all over town.
Take a look at this entire wall of faces that graces a very long wall along N Miami Ave at NW 25th St. We caught Rime in action, almost halfway through painting this on Saturday afternoon.

"Instead of grinding coffee beans for a morning brew, artist Saimir Strati has taken on a massive mosaic project made of approximately one million coffee beans. The piece features five characters who each represent a different continent. The objective is to display a sense of unity across the world.
Strati, who is based in Albania, is known for setting records with his meticulously labor-intensive creations and this installation entitled One World, One Family, One Coffee is no exception. The mosaic artist began the construction of this project, which is 25 square meters and weighs 140kg, in Tirana, Albania. He intends to complete the piece by December 12, 2011 to enter the Guinness World Records book yet again."

"It's almost impossible to comprehend the scale of these historic photographs by Englishman Arthur S Mole and his American colleague John D Thomas, who were commissioned by the US government to take the pictures as a way to raise morale among the troops and raise money by selling the shots to the public during WWI.
In the photo above, "there are 18,000 men: 12,000 of them in the torch alone, but just 17 at the base. The men at the top of the picture are actually half a mile away from the men at the bottom," explains Arthur's great nephew Joseph Mole, 70.
Mole and Thomas were the first to use a unique technique to beat the problem of perspective after they devised a clever way of getting so many soldiers in the pictures. Joseph explains: "Arthur was able to get the image by actually drawing an outline on the lens, he then had the troops place flags in certain positions while he looked through the camera. It would take a week to get all the outlines right, but just 30 minutes to move all the men into position to take the shot. It must have been amazing to watch."
What's makes the story even more fascinating is that instead of profiting from the sale of the images produced, the photographers donated the entire income derived to the families of the returning soldiers and to this country's efforts to re-build their lives as a part of the re-entry process."

Bon Yurt se toma el mundo neón con un perfomance donde artistas utilizan glowsticks, licuadoras, 700 vasos de cristal y 200 metros de mangueras, entre muchos otros elementos, para crear una instalación neón que un DJ enciende al ritmo de la música.

Ya apareció el nuevo y segundo libro del duo de grafiteros alemanes: HERA y AKUT = HERAKUT llamado "AFTER THE LAUGHTER" a través de la editorial Publikat.
Ambos ya llevan años pintando y creando arte urbano por caminos diferentes y han sorprendido al mundo artistico juntándose para fusionar sus estilos únicos.
Desde su primer libro "HERAKUT - the perfect merge" ha corrido mucha agua bajo el puente llevando a su segundo libro a nuevos horizontes. Naturalmente con mucho material nuevo.
Revisando este libro lo primero que destaca, y lo pueden ver en las imágenes de esta crítica, es que Hera y Akut y su trabajo ha notado una gran diversificación en cuanto a soportes:
proyectos de murales, instalaciones, ilustraciones, textiles, animaciones, fotografías y objetos en tres dimensiones sin olvidar las esculturas. Hay de todo y hacen de todo!
El libro lo muestra de una forma bien didáctica que más bien parece un sketchbook o un diario de vida. Notas en todas las páginas, anécdotas, pensamientos y detalles que te mantienen revisando cada página como una obra de arte.
Sus caracteres (estos perros y las m,ujeres con un tipo de capucha animal) van contando historia, hacen preguntas y a su vez tratan de buscar las respuestas a ellas. Esto junto a los textos caligráficos en su arte es una mezcla que ha recibido gran interés por parte de la escena mundial y de los coleccionistas de arte.
El libro After The Laughter tiene 240 páginas a todo color, mucho collage que resume lo que han vivido entre 2009 y el 2011 tanto Hera como Akut y ambos como duo.
Un libro muy personal, como la gran mayoría de sus trabajos, logra abrir una ventana para ver su arte desde el lado de la creación y de su desarrollo.

In late July of 2011, Shepard Fairey and his team headed to Copenhagen for a solo exhibition at the V1 Gallery. We decided to document the trip in hopes of capturing a behind the scenes look into the preparation for the show.
The show itself was a huge success but a lot of crazy stuff happened along the way. The following videos are a very honest look at the highs and lows of the experience.
This image represents my support for the Occupy movement, a grassroots movement spawned to stand up against corruption, imbalance of power, and failure of our democracy to represent and help average Americans. On the other hand, as flawed as the system is, I see Obama as a potential ally of the Occupy movement if the energy of the movement is perceived as constructive, not destructive. I still see Obama as the closest thing to "a man on the inside" that we have presently. Obviously, just voting is not enough. We need to use all of our tools to help us achieve our goals and ideals. However, I think idealism and realism need to exist hand in hand. Change is not about one election, one rally, one leader, it is about a constant dedication to progress and a constant push in the right direction. Let's be the people doing the right thing as outsiders and simultaneously push the insiders to do the right thing for the people. I'm still trying to work out copyright issues I may face with this image, but feel free to share it and stay tuned...

Acaba de salir del horno de la editorial alemana Publikat un libro sobre el arte en bicicletas.
No necesariamente mostrando murales y graffiti que incluyen bicicletas....vá mucho más allá.
Bike Art del autor griego de los libros Mural Art Kiriakos Iosifidis, es un homenaje a la bicicletas en todo su significado.
La bicicleta es probablemente el medio de transporte más usado en el mundo (más que el automóvil!). Nos permite ser libres, ser autónomos dándole un uso de transporte, un uso deportivo o simplemente de diversión. Hay para todos los gustos: caras, baratas, simples y muy elaboradas.
Y esto lleva a que más de uno le dedica especial cariño y preocupación a su bicicleta.
Esta pasión por la bicicleta que ha movido a mucha gente a inspirarse en ella de forma artística es lo que recoge el autor con Bike Art.
El libro recoge diferentes expresiones artísticas que se dedican solo a este tema: la bicicleta.
Ya sea a través de discilpinas como pintar paredes, afiches, decorar las bicicletas, diseñar modelos extravagantes o el uso en revistas y medios impresos. En 250 páginas, 250 artistas, fotógrafos, pintores, ilustradores y diseñadores muestran sus creaciones y su tributo a la bicicleta.
A modo personal la idea de hacer un libro sobre bicicletas, desde el punto de rendirle tributo de forma artística es notable. Bike Art tiene la misma estructura de libro que vienen teniendo las series de Mural Art (por artista y con un comentario y breve biografía de cada uno).
Interesante ver la diversidad de expresiones respecto a este medio de transporte.

"Walls & Frames: Fine art from the streets" es un libro de la editorial alemana Gestalten y el autor Maximiliano Ruiz (autor del libro Nuevo Mundo).
El libro se enfoca en lo que es la transición de los artistas urbanos y sus trabajos desde la calle hacia la galería. La calle es vista como punto de partida, como principal influencia.
Es en la calle, en las paredes públicas donde todos estos artistas acá presentados tuvieron sus primeros acercamientos con el street art, con el graffiti, con el stencil, etc.
Años y mucha agua ha corrido bajo el puente los artistas urbanos empiezan a ser descubiertos por la sociedad. Es más, ellos mismos buscan que su trabajo también sea trasladado a otros formatos y que sea visto por más gente.
No necesariamente con fines de lucro, sino más bien para diversificar y explorar nuevos horizontes.
Acá es donde Walls & Frames entra en acción. Nos muestra sobre 100 artistas y sus trabajos "post" calle. De que manera ven esta transición y cual es su enfoque actual. Naturalmente no dejan de lado la calle, pero enfocan las energías en producir sobre otros formatos que no sean muros, paredes, panderetas, etc.
Encontramos artistas destacados y conocidos y otros no tanto, pero que fueron seleccionados por su diversidad. Hay de todo en este libro, de todas las técnicas y materiales.
Ya nos alejamos definitivamente del graffiti y del uso único del spray.
Me gusta el libro como medio de influencia, como soporte para ver nuevas ideas del arte contemporáneo....que no sea el de los museos.

After literally stumbling upon a new promotion for the Kaws-designed Hennessy bottle this morning, we just found out about another artist collaboration. The UK newspaper The Independent published photos of a limited edition box and bottle label for a 20-year-old Somerset Cider Brandy designed by one of the most controversial, and successful artists in the world, Damien Hirst! The collaboration came about thanks in large part to the fashion designer Alice Temperley, a friend of the artist and daughter of distillery owner Julian Temperley. This collaboration celebrates a particular distinction the spirit won last month, receiving PGI status (Protected Geographical Indication) from the European Union.
Only 500 bottles of the Hirst-bottled cider brandy will be sold, with 10 being auctioned off for charities including a South African orphanage.

Un buen testeo...
From Here To Fame, editorial alemana de libros sobre arte urbano, dedica el Nr. 14 de su serie de libros sobre grafiteros "On The Run" a estos dos pintores y su viaje a Rio de Janeiro el 2010.
Con un estilo que se ha alejado en los últimos años de las letras propiamente tales a temáticas mas ilustrativas los gemelos parten rumbo a la metropolis brasilera para dedicarse a pintar paredes durante semanas y presentarlas en un libro interesante con muy buenas imágenes.
El libro que tiene una Introducción del maestro grafitero Daze, es un diario de vida de dos pintores. Nos cuentan anécdotas que pasaron al pintar tal y cual muro, situaciones y aventuras de lo que significa pintar en Rio....o diría Sudamérica?
Naturalmente para nosotros en Sudamérica es relativamente normal que se pinte con lo que se encuentra y esto a veces también limita la gama cromática a lo justo y necesario.
Acá How & Nosm siguen la misma ideología y ocupan solamente negro, blanco y rojo para todas sus pinturas en Rio. Es una buena combinación, que tiene un efecto muy pregnante y resalta en la pared.
Me gusta ver como ellos logran integrar el dibujo a la pared y al entorno. A veces el resultado es muy especial y calza 100% con la vida a su alrededor.
El libro de On The Run sigue la misma línea de libros como el que analizamos en KELP.cl de Faith 47 o el del sevillano Logan.
Es un libro de formato mas bien pequeño: 23,5cm x 16cm y con 128 páginas a todo color que contienen 250 imágenes e ilustraciones.

Is success defined by the grades you get in school? Dominic Randolph, the headmaster of the prestigious private school, Riverdale Country School, doesn't think so. According to him, too much attention is put on grades and not enough on character. "There was this idea in America that if you worked hard and you showed real grit, that you could be successful," says Randolph.
As an artistic response, designer Stephen Doyle of Doyle Partners produced these amazing anamorphic tape installations of character traits at two New York City schools for the article What if the Secret to Success is Failure? in The New York Times Magazine.

"As Levin watched the progress of those KIPP alumni, he noticed something curious: the students who persisted in college were not necessarily the ones who had excelled academically at KIPP; they were the ones with exceptional character strengths, like optimism and persistence and social intelligence. They were the ones who were able to recover from a bad grade and resolve to do better next time; to bounce back from a fight with their parents; to resist the urge to go out to the movies and stay home and study instead; to persuade professors to give them extra help after class. Those skills weren't enough on their own to earn students a B.A., Levin knew. Of American Graffiti de Roger Gastman y Caleb Neelon (Editorial Harper Collins
Publishers) es un librazo. Con
más de 400 páginas es para hacerse una idea la versión extensa y muy detallada
de Subway Art. En realidad pasa a ser el referente más completo que hay en la
actualidad de la historia completa del graffiti en EE.UU.
Ambos autores
dedicaron años en desarrollar, investigar y en recopilar material impreso y
visual para tener y para lograr un resultado referencial y a la altura de lo
que significa este movimiento para todos
nosotros.
La historia
completa significa que el libro está dividido en 7 capítulos que van desde el
camino del Tag a la Pieza, los años dorados de Nueva York y el paso del
graffiti al mundo. Historia bastante conocida y a la cual se le han dedicado
muchas páginas. Pero el detalle de The History Of American Graffiti es que
realmente esto parece ser contado desde el epicentro. Están los detalles de
diversas acciones nocturnas, quien pintaba con quien, por que, cual eran las
opiniones de diversos muros, etc. etc. Realmente un insider!
El capítulo a mi modo más interesante es el quinto. Acá los autores se enfocan en mostrar la historia del graffiti en EE.UU por sobre lo que era Los Angeles y Nueva York. Boston, Cleveland, Chicago, San Diego, Hawaii, etc.. Interesante ver como el graffiti empezaba a expandir sus raíces a otras ciudades, conservadoras, tradicionalistas. No había barreras ni fronteras.
A todo color con muchas imágenes exclusivas de los '70, '80 y '90 y un diseño simple, es todo un objeto. Dentro de los top 5 en cuanto a contenido. El libro son 50% imágenes, 50% texto. Esto lo hace tan interesante. No basta con hojearlo y sería....acá puedes volver y volver.
Me acuerdo mucho en los 90 con los libros como Subway Art. Aún hoy en día los hojeo y siempre hay algo nuevo, alguna información, imagen e investigación que no tienen fecha, son eternas.
El libro en inglés además cuenta muy bien los diferentes actores en las diversas escenas de graffiti en EE.UU, su modus operandi y su forma de pensar.
Encuentro que es interesante para los grafiteros, para nosotros como artistas, pero también es toda una aclaración para aquel público ajeno al graffiti.
No verán imágenes de graffiti Europeo o Sudamericano. Esto es puro 100% graffiti norteamericano, la raíz y la fuente desde donde nació toda la cultura.

Come a little closer. For the ten year anniversary of 9/11, London based artist Ben Turnbull created captivating collages comprised of fictional superheroes we can all recognize (if we look closely). They were made to commemorate real life heroes, the firemen and policemen that protect us every day.http://www.feeldesain.com/real-life-superhero-fire-man.htmlThere have been a wide array of 9/11 tributes in all mediums of art, but Turnbull's use of vintage comic books from his own childhood is especially engaging. The collages also allude to the idea of real superheroes being hidden amongst us. After all, the fictional superheroes are hidden within these brave men. Police officers and firemen may not wear tights or don a cape, but they do serve and protect us on a daily basis. Turnball even points out that "Superman didn't fly down to save the falling buildings, there was no Caped Crusader ready to do battle with the arch-enemy and Spidey didn't spin his web. Without the need of a phone-booth or a revolving door, these true patriots donned their iconic costumes and sacrificed life and limb for what they believed in."

Rochfort (Editorial Laurence
King) pertenece desde ya a un libro histórico. La temática
es a mi modo de ver una lectura obligada para todo aquel interesado en conocer
las raíces de nuestra cultura del graffiti y del arte
urbano en Sudamérica.
Los tres grandes muralistas mexicanos representados en este libro no necesitan una gran Introducción: Jose Clemente OROZCO, Diego RIVERA y David Alfonso SIQUEIROS. Ahora leyendas, fueron estos personajes quienes se convirtieron en los mayores expositores del movimiento muralista mexicano desde 1920 hasta 1970. Para muchos a tal punto de ser el mayor movimiento de arte público del siglo pasado.....Todos saben lo que paso después de los '70.
El libro nos cuenta la historia que llevo al muralismo mexicano a su
apogeo, su desarrollo y sus facetas sociales. Desde Rivera y Orozco en los '30,
'40 y '50 y Siqueiros en los '50, '60 y '70. Con más de 100 imágenes de murales
pintados por estos tres artistas en Estados Unidos y en México. Para todo fanático del muralismo mexicano,
amante del arte y la cultura Mexicana, seguidor de Rivera y
Siqueiros, historiador y todo aquel que aprecia un buen pedazo de cultura y
historia en un libro, Mexican Muralists los cautivará.
A mí personalmente este libro es alucinante. De partida el
muralismo mexicano es e.o. una de las fuentes principales de inspiración a lo
que fueron las brigadas políticas de los años '60 y '70 en Chile como también
en Argentina. El muralismo político surgido en Sudamérica se vio muy
influenciado por la cultura Mexicana de plasmar lo social, lo cotidiano y la
actualidad sobre los muros de la gran ciudad y en los pueblos. Así a su vez el muralismo mexicano es de una u otra forma el
antecesor del graffiti para nosotros en Sudamérica. La calidad de del libro "Mexican Muralists" y su

The history of the Crochet
Tree It's about 10 years that I
live far away from my home, my culture. After some years I realised to start to
forget my language. For fighting this horrible fact I'm reading more in
hungarian. This winter I've found some unknown poems from one of the most famous
hungarian poets, Sándor Petőfi and immediately felt in love! He used several
times rainbow and spiderweb motifs in his works. Who ever seen my flickr knows
well that I'm "obsessed" with both of them! @;) After some times when
I returned home I went to my city's theater with my Mom. The name of this
theater is Petőfi Színház. Yet another time him, I've tought! The recitation
was shocking (in the right way): A Midsummer Night's Dream's adaptation from
William Shakespeare. At the end I felt like a forest creature in a fairytale!
As we were exit I've seen a tree in front of the theater. It was strange, nude,
"devious"... And I finally understood what do I have to do: Dress up
the Petőfi Színház's tree with Sándor Petőfi inspired rainbow crochet spiderwebs
for give him a fairytale look! During the crocheting progress
I've found myself wondering... How to answer to children when they are asking
me: how is it possible that a tree is rainbow coloured? So I wrote a little
fairytale for them, just for fun. I'm a crocheter NOT a writer! Be indulgent!
%) : Once Rainbow said: Every work of mine are based on numerology and colour therapy. This tree contains 13 colours
(which means 39 colour combinations). 13 because of the 13 chakras. I've found
a site times before and I'm happier since I've seen that all the Oversoul
Chakras are rainbow colored! @;) Toda una teoría de Babukatorium.
"I've already seen the whole world, I appear for some minutes here and
immediately I have to run to another place... I'm tired, I would like to go on
holiday!"
In April it was raining with sunshine several times, so Rainbow visited
Veszprém and felt in love with the city. There were colorful flowers everywhere
and people were kind. From the sky it seemed like a beautiful, quiet little
city. As Rainbow was looking around she've seen a lonely tree in a park rounded
by red tulips. People were walking hand in hand under him, children were
playing near to the tree and Rainbow could hear also the music from the theater
next to the park. She was envy for the moveless peace of that tree, for the
closeness of people... And she tought:
"I want to stand like that tree! I want to be a part of people's life for
awhile! This should be the perfect holiday for me!"
So Rainbow said goodbye to the sky and came down to hug tightly the tree!
(Don't worry, Rainbow's sisters and brothers are still trevelling all over the
world and Rainbow will return to work too after the relaxing holiday!)

I started to install it on May 3rd 2011, with new moon in taurus.
3 months for crochet, 3 days for installing 247 spiderweb circles. Number 3 and
13 returns everywhere in this project!
The colours are following from red to violet like chakras and they are
installed like the snake (Kundalini) is going up to the tree.
This time, JR and his team have set up four giant photobooths (Centre Pompidou Paris-Style) from 3-11th of September and turning out 1,000 photos each day. Both Palestinians and Israelis are invited to visit and receive a larg-format portrait. The portrait is given in exchange for a personal statement, and they can paste it wherever they wish.
The project is called "Time Is Now, Yalla!" because "Yalla!" is an Arabic word used by both Palestinians and Israelis to say "let's go".

It's amazing to see, how weapons can be used in a unusual way to create art. The roughness, flames and burned faces are probably the best solution to visualise brutal war, for what reason these unique Molotov Cocktail artworks are in my eyes a good way to commemorate...
Using bamboo as the frame and wood chips for insulation, one can sleep warm through the night. The egg-house uses a small solar panel to power a lamp and a handful of other electrical necessities inside, making it functional and livable.
The 258 square-foot (24 square meter) exhibit was created by Mexico City-based ROW Studio, a partnership between Álvaro Hernández Félix, Nadia Hernández Félix, Alfonso Maldonado Ochoa.

El Mac painted this beautiful mural in front of Sàn Art, an independent artist space, and just outside the offices of The Propeller Group in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam. It is based on a photo of Kosoom, the grandmother of El Mac's girlfriend.
All of the photographs included in this video as well as the footage of motorbikes zooming through the city were taken by El Mac. Part of his process, is documenting different people from different places and selecting a handful to paint on walls around the world. We wanted this video piece to be a reflection of how El Mac saw the world of Viet Nam for the first time, taking it all in, and juxtaposing the fast paced life in the city with this giant portrait that would literally slow people down in admiration as they passed by.

Este es el video oficial de la visita de ROA a México, en enero de 2011.
ROA fue invitado a la ciudad por la promotora de arte MAMUTT ARTE en colaboración con el Museo Del Juguete Antiguo México (MUJAM). ROA estuvo en el país por 3 semanas, dejando aproximadamente 15 murales en distintos lugares de la Ciudad de México, Guanajuato y Puebla. Tambien colaboró con grandes artistas mexicanos como Saner y Sego.
Conversamos con el Mono González acerca de la nueva ley anti graffiti e intervenciones urbanas que se desea impulsar, además por el impedimendo y fichaje a jóvenes que compran sprays en ferreterías.

End of the Line, in association with Distillery Productions and Toby Summerskill, have filmed the first 3D Graffiti Time-lapse. Created to document the production of a painted promo for Disney's Tron: Legacy this is the final 2D edit.
This groundbreaking project was filmed in December 2010 and January 2011, in a warehouse in Shoreditch with the exterior shots taken from the rooftops of East London.
Filmed over 4 days, it shows the execution of a 20-metre mural that was painted on huge canvases for installation on Great Eastern Street.
The time-lapse was created using 2 x Canon 5D MK2 cameras and a specially constructed 3D rig provided by Inition.

Art in the Streets will showcase installations by 50 of the most dynamic artists from the graffiti and street art
community, including Banksy (London), Fab 5 Freddy (New York), Lee Quiñones (New York), Futura (New York),
Margaret Kilgallen (San Francisco), Swoon (New York), Shepard Fairey (Los Angeles), Os Gemeos (São Paulo),
and JR (Paris). MOCA's exhibition will emphasize Los Angeles's role in the evolution of graffiti and street art, with
special sections dedicated to cholo graffiti and Dogtown skateboard culture. The exhibition will feature works by
influential local artists such as Craig R. Stecyk III, Chaz Bojórquez, Mister Cartoon, Robbie Conal, RETNA, SABER,
REVOK, and RISK.
A special emphasis will be placed on photographers and filmmakers who documented graffiti and street art
culture including Martha Cooper, Henry Chalfant, James Prigoff, Steve Grody, Gusmano Cesaretti, Estevan Oriol,
Ed Templeton, Larry Clark, Terry Richardson, and Spike Jonze. A comprehensive timeline illustrated with artwork,
photography, video, and ephemera will provide further historical context for the exhibition.
Art in the Streets will feature several shows within the show. There will be a special section dedicated to the
Fun Gallery, which connected New York graffiti artists with the downtown art community in the early 1980s. Co-
curated by gallery founder Patti Astor, the Fun Gallery installation will feature the work of Keith Haring, Jean-Michel
Basquiat, and the graffiti artists who shaped the gallery's history. A section dedicated to the seminal film Wild Style
(1983), co-curated by the film's director Charlie Ahearn, will document its influence on the global dissemination of
graffiti and hip-hop culture. The exhibition will also feature a memorial presentation of Battle Station, a rarely seen
work by legendary artist and theorist RAMMELLZEE, and a display of graffiti black books and other historic works
from the Martin Wong Collection presented in collaboration with the Museum of the City of New York. A highlight
of the exhibition will be a Los Angeles version of Street Market, a re-creation of an urban street complete with
overturned trucks by Todd James, Barry McGee, and Steve Powers.
The exhibition will open with a skate ramp designed by pro-skater Lance Mountain and artist Geoff McFetridge.
Skate demonstrations by the Nike SB skate team will be held on Thursday and Saturday afternoons.
"Art in the Streets will be the first exhibition to position the work of the most influential artists to emerge from street
culture in the context of contemporary art history," said MOCA Director Jeffrey Deitch.
"This quintessentially urban and dynamic partnership between the Brooklyn Museum and MOCA began with the
2005 Brooklyn-organized exhibition of the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, the consummate American street artist of
his generation; continued with the MOCA-organized ©MURAKAMI in 2007, defining critical elements of worldwide
street art; and now culminates with a groundbreaking exhibition devoted entirely to street art and graffiti," said
Brooklyn Museum Director Arnold L. Lehman. "The partnership has, in itself, provided a major record of public art
over the past half century."
Art in the Streets is organized by Jeffrey Deitch and associate curators Roger Gastman and Aaron Rose. Gastman
is the author of The History of American Graffiti, which will be released in April 2011, and was a consulting
producer on the film Exit Through The Gift Shop. Rose curated the exhibition Beautiful Losers and directed the
related documentary film. Ethel Seno, editor of Trespass: A History of Uncommissioned Urban Art, is the curatorial
coordinator of the exhibition. The Brooklyn Museum's presentation will be organized by Managing Curator of
Exhibitions Sharon Matt Atkins.

Haciendo de las suyas, Above (artista urbano) esta vez dejó su marca en las calles de Adelaide, Australia.
Una muestra exclusiva del proceso de un stencil por el grafitero Cr4yon3 desde Coyhaique, XI Region de Chile.
Hay que destacar que la escena del graffiti en esta región se vé como algo lejano prácticamente algo perteneciente al extranjero, según las palabras del propio Cr4yon3. Sin embargo vemos muy buenas pinturas y hay graffiti!

La Universitat Politècnica de València ya luce orgullosa los 14 nuevos grafitis que engalanan los más de 800 metros cuadrados de muros habilitados para la sexta edición de Poliniza, el Festival de Arte Urbano de la UPV, que ha finalizado esta tarde con la esperada exhibición de break dance de Supremos Crew y Cookin'Soul, quienes han congregado a más de 500 espectadores en el Ágora, centro neurálgico de la UPV.
Para Juan Canales, comisario del festival, "esta sexta edición ha sido sensacional, la que mejor ha sintetizado sin duda la simbiosis entre grafiti y pintura mural. Como ejemplo basta ver el trampantojo de Spok enfrentado a otro muro intervenido con su propia firma". Canales ha querido destacar "la gran calidad una vez más de las intervenciones. Estamos teniendo la fortuna de trabajar siempre con artistas de enorme talento, que además han demostrado una enorme profesionalidad en la presente edición", como demuestra el hecho de que varios de los grafiteros hayan trabajado de madrugada para poder concluir obras "de un tamaño superior al de otras ediciones, con nuevos muros de grandes dimensiones".
"La aportación latinoamericana ha significado con brillantez el color y la narrativa icónica cercana al surrealismo y al realismo mágico, mientras que los europeos han impregnado sus obras de imágenes que nos hablan de historias, a veces de manera cómica o irónica, y otras veces de un modo más poético", apuntaba también el comisario de Poliniza 2011, "muy contento de que todo haya salido a la perfección, con la suerte además de que el fantástico clima ha ayudado a disfrutar el festival más aún si cabe".
Las 14 obras, que ya pueden observarse en los muros de los edificios del Rectorado, la Facultad de Bellas Artes, la Escuela Técnica Superior de Gestión de la Edificación y el Ágora de la UPV, permanecerán visibles durante los próximos 11 meses, hasta la llegada de la séptima edición del Festival de Arte Urbano de la UPV: Poliniza 2012.

Ocupando una luz roja el artista italiano Sqon realizó su tag/firma/rayado en el aire. Con un ajuste en el tiempo de obturación de la cámara fotográfica logra que todo el trazado de su firma quede registrado en la imágen.

Gran muro que por mucho tiempo (años) estaba abandonado y sin valor agregado fue ahora pintado por Alapinta crew: grupo de grafiteros locales. Dándole un nuevo aire lleno de alegría, color y detalles al sector!

Este es un breve reportaje (15 min.) sobre un paso bajo nivel llamado Friedensengel (por la estatua que queda arriba en la calle).
Loomit, grafitero alemán, organizó todo una temática e invitó a varios grafiteros (Loomit, Daim, C100, Kelp, Akut, etc.) para pintar las diversas paredes.
Tanto Loomit como Kelp explican lo que hacen, por qué lo hacen y un poco de anécdotas.

Acaba de abrir sus puertas la nueva exposición sobre arte urbano del Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) en Los Angeles, USA.
Es también el lugar donde en la fachada exterior invitaron a BLU para pintarla y a los 2 días le borraron su mural por no ser del "gusto" del director.

Street Art "the best urban art from around the world" es un libro de una serie de publicaciones por parte del autor KET y la editorial Michael O'Mara Books Limited.
De la misma serie son también Graffiti Planet "the best graffiti from around the world" y Graffiti Planet 2 con más de 35.000 copias vendidas en 2008.
No hay mucha diferencia entre el uno y el otro, siendo que Street Art se enfoca en tres puntos específicos:
1. Stencil.
2. Pintura.
3. Autoadhesivos e impresos.
Street Art es un libro de bolsillo, de un tamaño ideal para los viajes y que recopila en aprox. 80 páginas a todo color imágenes de diferentes grafiteros y artistas urbanos.
Hay de todo lo que ofrece ya que no no hay barreras geográficas en el libro no tampoco se dá más valor a un artista que a otro.
Lo que me gusta de este pequeño libro de imagenes de arte urbano es que hay muchas imágenes de pinturas realizadas por artistas que están fuera de EE.UU o Europa. Me refiero a pintores latinos de Perú, Chile, Brasil como también de Sudáfrica y el Medio Oriente.
El que no haya texto en absoluto (solo para nombrar obra, lugar y año de realización) no molesta en absoluto. Es más, genera más atención en la muy buena selección de imágenes.
Ahora bien como sucede con el arte urbano, gracias a Internet y a las muchas publicaciones relacionadas....sucede que a veces se repiten las imágenes y que ya las viste en un libro o un sitio Web. Pero es algo a lo que nadie escapa...si quiere ser publicado.
Interesante recopilación de arte legal e ilegas y de mostrar en un mismo libro pintura de quienes viven de esto y tienen galerías y otros que prefieren seguir en la calle pintando.

Puedes conseguir Street Art acá directamente.
Su nuevo lanzamiento llamado "Urban Interventions: personal projects in public spaces", algo así como Intervenciones Urbanas de proyectos particulares en lugares públicos es un gran libro.
De unas 280 páginas a todo color UI no es un libro de graffiti, ni de stencils ni menos de autoadhesivos.
Al principio me costaba imaginarme el hecho de tener un libro con solamente intervenciones urbanas pero que no tenga que ver con marketing de alguna empresa o derechamente con el street art.
Fue mayúscula la sorpresa al revisar cada proyecto que es presentado en Urban Interventions.
Acá se trata de mostrar la creatividad del ser humano en su espacio, en su hábitat y de que forma sabe expresarse.
Hay de todo lo que puedas imaginarte que se pueda hacer en el espacio
público. Las imágenes siguientes son solamente un pequeño ejemplo.
Es el primer libro que presenta de forma bien completa y visual intervenciones urbanas por lo general ilegales.
Acá los autores hicieron un buen trabajo realizando una genial selección
de trabajos de todo el mundo. Arte, Arquitectura, Instalaciones,
Performances, Activismo, etc. de todo nos sorprende Urban Interventions.
El espacio urbano debemos verlo en el más completo espectro. No
solamente la plaza del frente o el paseo peatonal. Más bien desde el
paradero de buses intervenido, la estatua del centro, la señalética, la
arena de la playa, el bosque, el aire, el agua del lago, el río que
cruza la ciudad...absolutamente TODO es y puede ser intervenido.
La "calle" se transforma en un gran lienzo de expresión.
Cabe destacar que en este libro además se comenta de forma bastante
entretenida y breve el sentido de cada intervención además del lugar de
realización.
Después de leer y ver el libro es creo que muy normal cambiar la vista
en la próxima ida al supermercado, al local en la noche, al parque y a
pintar. Ya que empiezas a ver intervenciones aunque sean muy
pequeñas....y lo que es mejor: inspira a cambiar tu mismo tu entorno.
Manifestarte, entender y convivir con tu entorno como quieras. Así
puedes sorprender, irritar, provocar, atraer o alejar con tu señal y
rastro en un lugar público. Independiente de si es una metropolis o un
pueblo, una caleta de pescadores o una bencinera en el desierto.
Urban Interventions es el primer libro que documenta esta forma de Arte personal.

No acostumbro el publicar derechamente la publicidad de empresas grandes en KELP.cl pero cuando son ocasiones y campañas ALUCINANTES, es diferente.
Sucede con la campaña de la agencia Access para la empresa Mattel y su línea de autos en nminiatura Hot Wheels.

De la editorial de libros de graffiti alemana "From Here To Fame" llega un nuevo libro de la serie On The Run: artistas de graffiti.
Esta vez es la pintora y grafitera sudafricana Faith 47. Hay que decir que Sudáfrica tiene una escena de graffiti en crecimiento pero de igual forma que Asia o Sudamerica está bastante lejos del foco mundial.
Es por eso que la selección para hacer un libro de una pintora sudafricana me alegra mucho y abre nuevas posibilidades a muchos para mostrar su arte.
FHTF ha lanzado ya varios libros dedicados a grafiteros como Jepsy (rey de trenes), Sabe, Smash 137 o del sevillano Logan. Además de otros ya clásico como Hip Hop Files, Calligraffiti o Muralismo Morte que le han otorgado de ser una editorial icónica de lo que a pintura mural se refiere.
El libro sobre Faith 47 es una recopilación de sus mejores trabajos en diferentes ciudades de Sudáfrica y del mundo. Además de mostrarnos sus cuadros pintados y darnos algunas introspectivas y experiencias vividas.
Me agrada mucho lo que Faith 47 hace y este libro con sus imágenes solamente lo confirma. El muy variado uso gráfico y la elección de lugares genera de sus trabajos algo especial además de darle un toque político bastante directo.
Faith 47 está dividido en 8 capítulos que se reparten en 125 páginas a todo color y muy bien impresas.
Es una bonita forma de presentar a un mercado mundial el trabajo de una artista (El texto está en inglés).
Recomendable!

MTO pintó este auto en Berlin, Alemania ocupando los colores corporativos de la empresa de envíos UPS (United Postal Service) transformándola en USS (United Sprayer Service).

Con la nueva campaña de la Fundación del Cáncer Mamario de Singapur titulada "Are you obsessed with the right things?" el enfoque no está en el texto. Sino más bien en las imágenes ocupadas: Cuerpos pintados que atraen la atención y dedicarle más que una mirada furtiva.
Ocupando la pintura corporal "Kryolan" e.o. el ilustrador Andy Yang Soo pintó los cuerpos (acá una muestra).
Idea de la campaña es sugerir que las mujeres deberían fijarse más en su salud y controlarse los pechos ante eventualidades de cáncer antes de fijarse si su cabello está seco, decolorido o poco liso.
